Southern California Edison Seeks Renewable Energy Contracts

Southern California Edison is seeking power purchase contracts for renewable energy under 20 MW in size. The power utility will buy power from solar, wind, biomass, biogas, oceanic, hydroelectric, or geothermal projects located in California. SCE is looking for projects that could be operating within three years of contract approval, expected to be January 2011.

Power Forecast, Haiti, TDA

The U.S. Trade and Development Agency announces its intent to request proposals to provide technical assistance to forecast future power demand in Haiti and assist governmental and private sector entities in Haiti in developing a strategy to generate, transmit and distribute power to both urban and rural areas, to encourage Haiti’s recovery from the disastrous earthquake and to fuel economic growth. The assistance will include the identification, assessment and quantification of renewable energy options such as wind, solar and biomass. $800K expected to be available. The Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium and RurAL CAP request proposals for Community Environmental Demonstration Projects. This initiative will support innovative projects that address approaches for enhancing human health and the environment of Tribal communities in rural Alaska. Areas of interest for demonstration projects include, but are not limited to: Climate change, indoor air quality, solid waste management, recycling, outreach materials, energy use, and pollution. $200K expected to be available, up to 12 awards anticipated. Renewables & GHG Reductions – Developing Countries, EEREP (September 10)

The U.S. Agency for International Development requests applications for the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Program (EEREP). Through this program, USAID anticipates awarding Leaders with Associate (LWA) Cooperative Agreements. The LWAs will be under two themes: 1) Increasing Energy Efficiency, which will focus on increasing energy efficiency to reduce GHG emissions in developing country economies, and 2) Increasing Adoption of Renewable Energy, which seeks to assist developing countries with promoting and establishing an expanded supply of renewable energy systems. $5 million expected to be available, 2 awards anticipated. NV Energy Seeks Offers for Renewable Energy Credits (September 22)

NV Energy has issued a Request for Offers (RFO) for renewable energy portfolio credits from qualified renewable energy generators for a contractual time length of five to 25 years. Energy credit proposals will be considered for solar, geothermal, biomass, wind and other resources eligible for portfolio energy credits under the Nevada Renewable Portfolio Standard and will require certification from the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada.
Eligible renewable resources must be either in operation or have a commercial operation date no later than July 1, 2013. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency requests proposals for Black Carbon’s Role in Global to Local Scale Climate and Air Quality. This RFP will support areas including but not limited to: Emission source research, the global to local scale emissions inventory, and co-pollutants. Small Producers Program, RPSEA (September 28)

The Research Partnership to Secure Energy for America (RPSEA) recently announced the 2010 Request for Proposals (RFP) for the Small Producers Program. Up to $3.2 million is available for a variety of projects, including among others "Creative capture and reuse of industrial waste products (CO2, produced water, excess heat) to reduce operating costs or improve recovery."

The Nevada Institute for Renewable Energy Commercialization (NIREC) has opened a new call for proposals supporting clean energy innovations. The new clean energy RFP offering is up to $150,000 in funding and services per project

Apply to one of two award tracks: NIREC Research Partner Track (DRI, UNR, UNLV, UC Davis) or U.S.-based Early-Stage Company Track

Through this award, NIREC provides funding and pre-commercialization services worth $150,000. Applicants submit a budget of up to $100k and NIREC provides up to an additional $50k in business planning services in the form of an Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EiR) who guides the commercialization process. At the end of a successful NIREC engagement, projects will be well on the way to achieving that next very important funding milestone toward commercialization.

Power, Controls and Adaptive Networks, NSF (October 7)

The National Science Foundation requests proposals for Power, Controls and Adaptive Networks. This program supports distributed control of multi-agent systems with embedded computation for sensor and adaptive networks. This program emphasizes electric power networks and grids, including generation, transmission and integration of renewable, sustainable and distributed energy systems, such as fuel cells and micro-turbines in large power networks; high power electronics and drives; and understanding of associated regulatory and economic structures. The program also emphasizes energy scavenging and alternative energy technologies, including solar cells, ocean waves, wind, geothermal, low-head hydro, and the hydrogen economy. Works Procurement Notice, Drilling Of Geothermal Wells in Roseau Valley, Commonwealth of Dominica (October 25)

The Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica through the Ministry of Public Works Energy and Ports – Geothermal Project Management Unit, intends to procure the services of a drilling contractor to drill at least three geothermal wells in the Wotten Waven / Laudat area. The objective of the project is to prove the existence of high enthalpy geothermal resource suitable for commercial generation of electric power and to determine the capacity for sustainable exploitation. Services to be provided by the contractor include mobilization and demobilization of the drilling rig and associated equipment, drilling of at least three wells, provision of cementing, drill-pipe inspection, and vertical drilling expertise. The provision of drilling mud and related additives and well testing services will also be required. Deadline is 9:00am Eastern Caribbean Time on October 25, 2010.
